When oceans and continents separate seafarers from home and loved ones, times of trouble can seem overwhelming. These are the times when the compassionate and skilled team of Seafarers' House can make all the difference.
With professionals specializing in maritime affairs and caring volunteers working together, we are able to assist with a variety of pastoral care, on shore and on board services.
We help with:
- Worship and pastoral counseling supportive to a seafarer's own faith;
- Facilitating dispute resolution;
- Improvement of working and living conditions; and
- Securing medical care
For those mariners who have a valid U.S. visa, our center provides access to counseling, support, communications equipment, money remittances and a well-stocked electronics and convenience store. Located within Port Everglades and with shipside transportation provided, our center is easily accessible to mariners at Port Everglades.
For mariners who must remain aboard ship, our center provides ship board services, such as pastoral counseling, money remittances and access to the goods we stock in our international store. Electronics, phone cards, SIM cards and other sundries can be delivered directly to the ship.
Our chaplains come from many faith groups in the community and work cooperatively to help seafarers deepen their relationship with God, others and themselves through faith-rooted, responsive, loving ministry. Respect for each person's faith and individual human dignity is the hallmark of their service. Our pastoral care team provides counseling and religious services.
