SEAFARERS' HOUSE ANNOUNCES SELECTION OF DEACON RONALD PERKINS AS CHAPLAIN
Seafarers' House announces the appointment
of Deacon Ronald G. Perkins to the position of
Chaplain for Seafarers' House.
Said Board Chair, Anitra Lanczi, "Ron served for over five years as a Seafarers' House leader and Board member and in 2006 began his support of our pastoral team as a volunteer chaplain. His clear commitment to our mission coupled with his strong experience as both a business and community leader will surely strengthen us in our mission to 'offer refuge, resources, renewal and respect to the maritime community through multi-faith service'.

An upstate New York native, Deacon Perkins earned an RN degree at Marcy State Hospital School of Nursing affiliated with Utica College of Syracuse University and spent the early years of his career as a US Navy Nurse Corps Officer. While in the Navy, Perkins served on surgical teams deployed aboard naval vessels and was the medical regulating officer for the evacuation of Saigon. After leaving the Navy, his work in the health care field included serving as Vice President of Patient Care Services at Saint Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana and later, as Vice President of American Healthcorp, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1987, Perkins founded his own company, Health Advantage, Inc.

During his tenure as president and chief executive officer of Health Advantage, Inc., the company grew into a multi-million dollar provider of specialty healthcare services and was sold to a NYSE listed holding company. In 1994 Perkins joined American Document Management as Chairman, taking on the financial and corporate relations management for this technology company now based in Fort Lauderdale.

Because of his deep-seated faith and his calling to the maritime ministry, Deacon Perkins takes on the mission of Seafarers' House service to the maritime community as a new vocation. Ordained to the Diaconate in August 2006, Perkins has served at both Ecclesia Christi and Our Lady of Hope Western Orthodox Catholic Church as well as volunteering as chaplain with Seafarers' House and the Fort Lauderdale and Lauderhill Police Departments. Perkins is a Certified Law Enforcement Chaplain and Critical Incident Stress Manager.

Said Executive Director, Lesley Warrick, " Ron has never failed us in his commitment to our mission. His skills and training are coupled with a wonderful enthusiasm and warmth for the work of the ministry. We are delighted to have him join the team in this key role as our full-time Chaplain."
